O sul-africano Jordy Smith fez a festa da torcida ao conquistar o bicampeonato do Billabong Pro neste domingo, em Jeffrey's Bay, África do Sul.

Com belíssimas atuações nas ondas de até 1,5 metros e formação prejudicada pelo forte vento maral, Jordy manteve o cinturão em J-Bay e faturou US$ 70 mil pela vitória na quarta etapa do World Tour.

Na final, o sul-africano de 23 anos derrotou o australiano Mick Fanning por 15.60 a 14.83 pontos.

Mick Fanning fica com o vice.Jordy descolou 8.60 e 7.00 nas duas melhores notas, enquanto Mick somou 8.00 e 6.83.

"Foi uma semana incrível para mim", comemora Smith. "Todo a torcida das pessoas em Jeffrey's Bay, Garth (Tarlow), Steve (Smith), minha namorada Lyndall (Jarvis), minha mãe, meu pai e todos. Foi uma semana realmente especial para mim e estou muito feliz agora", diz o campeão, emocionado.

Com a vitória, ele pula da quinta para a segunda posição no ranking mundial e vai em busca do seu primeiro título. "Mick (Fanning) estava surfando de forma incrível durante toda a semana. Ele sempre é uma inspiração e está ali com todos na caça ao título. Hoje foi uma grande vitória para mim. No último ano, foi muito emocionante. Estar de volta este ano é muito bom. É demais para a minha confiança e estou ansioso pelo resto do ano", finaliza Jordy.

Depois de passar pelo brasileiro, Parko não resistiu ao compatriota Mick Fanning, perdendo o duelo de altíssimo nível pelo placar de 15.30 a 17.47 pontos.

Na outra semi, o sul-africano Jordy Smith passou pelo aussie Adrian Buchan por 17.46 a 11.87. Antes de derrotar Buchan e Fanning, Smith havia atropelado o norte-americano Damien Hobgood por 15.10 a 8.94.

Líder Com a terceira posicão em J-Bay, Joel Parkinson é o novo líder do World Tour 2011. Além de perder a ponta para Parko, o brasileiro Adriano de Souza ainda foi ultrapassado pelo campeão Jordy Smith.

Ao comentar a liderança, Parko foi cauteloso. "Eu ainda não penso nisso. Este é apenas o quarto evento do ano e já estive nesta posição antes. Estou feliz com meu surf, com minhas pranchas, e vou continuar de olho na próxima bateria", garante o aussie de 30 anos.
