Victor Ribas é o dono do melhor resultado brasileiro na história do Circuito Mundial – terceiro colocado no ranking final de 1999. Aos 39 anos, segue em forma e competindo mais do que nunca, porém apenas pelas beiradas. Depois de um acidente que o deixou de molho por alguns meses no ano passado, ele luta para ter a chance de voltar aos campeonatos da divisão de acesso, o WQS. Ocupa a 203ª colocação no ranking unificado, posto que não o permite entrar nas chaves das etapas primes. Nesta sexta-feira, o cabofriense venceu pela terceira vez no Arpoador e se tornou o único surfista invicto no Mundial Masters.

No início do ano passado, Vitinho surfava em Arraial do Cabo quando foi jogado sobre as pernas do canto da praia. Cortou o pé, sofreu arranhões por todo o corpo. Perdeu a perna europeia do WQS e despencou no ranking.
- Se você não está entre os 100, não entra.
Vitinho decidiu então aceitar o convite da Confederação Brasileira de Surfe (CBS) para disputar o ISA Games, no Panamá. Lá, começou a cogitar a possibilidade de competir na categoria master. Fora o campeonato brasileiro e outras etapas nacionais...
- Hoje disputo muito mais campeonatos do que na época em que estava no Circuito Mundial. Por isso até me sinto com essa responsabilidade de ir bem aqui – disse.
Piadas ao lado do filho
Na areia, Victor Ribas tinha um torcedor especial: o filho, Lucas, de 8 anos. Quando o menino nasceu, o surfista estava em Fernando de Noronha, disputando um WQS. Abriu mão da etapa e voltou ao Rio de Janeiro. Hoje, Vitinho ri toda hora que escuta a piada:
- Ele está maior que você – brincavam os amigos.
As ondas estavam novamente miúdas no Arpoador. O baixinho Vitinho aproveitou e arrancou notas 7,00 e 7,50. Na bateria estava o campeão mundial de 1999, Mark Ochiluppo, além de Richard Lovett e Richie Collins. Com dores nas costas, Richie deu as pranchas para não precisar carregá-las e competiu com uma de Jojó de Olivença.
- Esses caras são os meus grandes heróis. Quando comecei a competir, o Occy estava no auge. Eu me espelhei muito em todo mundo aí – disse Vitinho.
